PEORIA – March 13, 2020 – Lanes will be closing along Interstate 74 during the upcoming prime construction season. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has released the upcoming schedule for lane closures to accommodate work to prepare the Murray Baker Bridge (Interstate 74) for its upcoming deck replacement.
The bridge will tentatively be closed beginning March 29 to October 31, 2020. Motorists should plan to take alternative routes and allow extra time for their commutes during this period.

I-74 Construction Timeline:
- March 14-15: The outside westbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- March 16-20: The outside westbound lane will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- March 29: Bridge scheduled to be close
- October 31: Rehabilitated bridge tentatively scheduled to be reopened
Detours Ahead
Through traffic in the Peoria metro area will be detoured via Interstate 474 and local traffic through downtown and East Peoria will be detoured via Illinois Route 40 (Bob Michel Bridge) during the construction phase.
