The mulch comes from the City’s own collection of recycled trees and branches. Public Works crews are responsible for clearing away dead trees that are on City property or those that have uprooted during windstorms. etc. The amount of trees collected can yield as much as 60-100 tons of mulch each year.

Mulch is used to retain moisture in the soil, suppress weeds, keep soil cool and make a garden bed look more organized and attractive. Organic mulches also help improve the soil’s fertility, as they decompose.
Note: social distancing measures will be in place and participants should wear a face covering and bring their own gardening tools, supplies and containers.
