Motorists should keep an eye out for traffic control signs and follow detours as instructed. Drivers will be directed away from the site down Northwest Scenic Drive to West Sylvan Lane and around Westlake Shopping Center on North Rockwood Road.
Why it Matters
This culvert is considered a road crossing drain which carries water from one drainage ditch on one side of the road to another. The water then passes into a drainage ditch and gets carried away from the City to Kickapoo Creek and eventually to the Illinois River.

“Without culverts transporting water, we would be without many of our existing roads which have enabled the City to grow and better connect commercial and residential areas of town,” said Superintendent of Operations, Sie Maroon. “Efficiently moving stormwater away from our streets is key to keeping our roads flood free and in operation during extreme rain events.”
The work will be underway starting Monday, May 11, and should wrap up by the end of the month, weather permitting.
