Second Road Closure Coming To 300 Block Of Southwest Water Street

Illinois River floodwaters are now on Northeast Water Street after seeping through an inlet. Barricades are being installed at Liberty and Harrison Streets this morning to restrict vehicular traffic. Other inlets in the area have been plugged to keep more water from infiltrating the floodwall.

Pedestrians who wish to visit the area will still have access to restaurants and businesses, however, they should keep watch for directional signs. The Public Works Department encourages anyone walking around the River Station area to watch their step and practice patience as Flood Fighters continue their work.

As of Friday morning, the river level was 27.89 feet, just below the forecasted crest of 28 feet. River water has been pushing up against the barrier over the past 48 hours and could threaten the integrity of the sandbag floodwall. Crews will continue to monitor and maintain the structure and water pumps 24/7 until floodwaters begin to recede.
