PEORIA – March 19, 2020 – Motorists could soon encounter minor delays along Sheridan Road as Peoria Public Works crews and contractors prep and resurface a large strip of the roadway.
The 10 block site slated for mill and overlay runs between Florence Avenue and Hanssler Place. The process includes removing the top two inch layer of the street and then repaving the surface. Southbound traffic will be shut down over the duration of the project and detours will be in place to direct drivers to War Memorial Drive and University Street to McClure Avenue.
“Each project we undertake is for the good of the community,” said Bill Lewis, City Engineer. “This resurfacing work will make it safer for travelers along this stretch of road and improve the look and functionality of our community’s infrastructure.”
Motorists are urged to use alternative routes and plan to avoid the area starting Monday, March 30. The project could take as many as two to three weeks to complete, weather pending.
See the Impact
The community impact is vast as thousands of drivers pass through the area on a daily basis. On a typical weekday, Sheridan Road will carry as many as 8,000 vehicles to the north and south of Forrest Hill Avenue.
