11 Plainfield Middle School Students Headed To Regional Civics Bee

Students were selected based on their personal essays, which identified issues in their communities and proposed thoughtful solutions.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Eleven Plainfield middle school students will participate in the regional Civics Bee for a chance to compete at the state level.

Twenty students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade were chosen to compete April 28 at Lewis University. Competitors include students from Naperville, Plainfield, Bolingbrook, Channahon and Laraway school districts.

  • Ava Dreger, 7th grade at Indian Trail Middle School
  • Kaleigh Hebenstreit, 7th grade at Indian Trail Middle School
  • Cindy Jargalsaikhan, 8th grade at John F. Kennedy Middle School
  • Varun Kandimalla, 8th grade at John F. Kennedy Middle School
  • Sarvik Narwade, 7th grade at Heritage Grove Middle School

The students were selected based on their personal essays, which identified issues in their communities and proposed thoughtful solutions.

The regional event, open to the public, will begin at 4 p.m. in Lewis University's St. Charles Borromeo Convocation Hall, 101 W. Arpt Road. The competition will feature two rounds of civics-based quiz questions, followed by a question-and-answer round where finalists will present and discuss their ideas for community improvement.

Last year, Chavda, then in sixth grade, won both the regional and Illinois civics bees to make it to the national bee in Washington, D.C.
