Coroner IDs 17-Year-Old Girl Killed In Plainfield Crash

Authorities said the Romeoville teen's Hyundai veered off 143rd Street and into a deep embankment.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A 17-year-old girl died after her car veered off the road and into a deep embankment Wednesday evening, Plainfield police said.

The Will County Coroner’s Office identified her as Abigail Cueto-Javier, of Romeoville. Although the final cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date pending police, autopsy, and toxicological results, officials said preliminary results show she suffered “multiple injuries due to a motor vehicle mishap.”

Plainfield police and fire crews responded to the crash, on 143rd Street, just west of Frontage Road, around 6:23 p.m. after receiving calls of a serious crash.

At the scene, first responders found a gray Hyundai Elantra in a ditch on the side of the road. Interviews with witnesses confirmed the sedan was driving east on 143rd Street when it left the road.

The driver died of her injuries, police said in an update Thursday morning.

The crash remains under investigation.

The street remained closed for several hours Wednesday evening as personnel from the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency and Will County Sheriff's Office investigated the incident.
