2 Detached Garages, Basement Ablaze Within 12 Hours: Plainfield FD
The fires — one in Plainfield and two in unincorporated Joliet — occurred between 2 p.m. Wednesday and 2 a.m. Thursday.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Two detached garages and one basement caught fire within 12 hours of one another Wednesday, according to Plainfield Fire Protection District personnel.
The first fire was reported at 2:11 p.m. in the 2400 block of Grape Street in unincorporated Joliet. Crews found a fire contained to the rear portion of a detached garage.
Plainfield and Lockport firefighters extinguished the flames determined the cause to be electrical, officials said.

The second fire was reported at 9:44 p.m. at a vacant house in the 15700 block of Route 59 in Plainfield, officials said. Once at the scene, crews found "heavy fire conditions" in the basement beginning to extend to the first floor.
Firefighters extinguished the fire from the outside with the help of crews from the Troy Fire Protection District. Officials said the fire remains under investigation by Plainfield personnel and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.

The third fire, also in a detached garage, was reported at 2:47 a.m. Thursday in the 2400 block of Burbank Street. In this instance, heavy fire and smoke were showing from the garage's attic, officials said.
With the assistance of Lockport firefighters, Plainfield personnel extinguished the fire, which remains under investigation.
