2 Dogs Killed In Plainfield Townhouse Fire: FD
The fire caused about $40,000 in damage, Plainfield fire crews estimated.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Two dogs were killed Saturday evening after a fire broke out at a townhouse in the 24800 block of Gates Lane, Plainfield firefighters said.
Crews were dispatched at 6:29 p.m. for a report of an odor. When they arrived, they found a working fire that they quickly brought under control, according to a Monday news release.
The residents of the affected townhouse were not home at the time of the incident, but two dogs were killed, officials said. The occupants of adjoining units were able to safely evacuate.

Fire crews estimate the damage to the unit to be about $40,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters from the Troy, Romeoville, Minooka, Aurora Township and Montgomery fire departments provided station coverage during the response. The Plainfield Police Department assisted at the scene.

Officials reminded locals to have working smoke detectors on every level of their homes and inside sleeping areas as they can "significantly increase the chances of survival." Alarms should be tested monthly, and batteries should be replaced once a year.
