2 Plainfield Warnings Sirens Damaged In Recent Storms: Police

PLAINFIELD, IL — Two of Plainfield’s outdoor warning sirens are out of service after they were damaged in recent storms, police said Thursday.

The affected sirens are No. 5, on Route 126 east of Drauden Road, and No. 6, on Lockport Street near Interstate 55.

The village contacted its siren vendor, who is working to repair the damage.

“Unfortunately, it may take some time before these sirens are fully operational again,” police said. “We appreciate your patience while repairs are underway.”

In the meantime, police urged residents to ensure their cell phones’ emergency and weather alerts are turned on.

The village plans to replace and expand its outdoor warning system using a $500,000 grant, officials said. The project is currently in the planning phase.

“Please remember: Outdoor warning sirens are designed primarily to alert people who are outside,” police said. “They should not be your only source of severe weather information.”
