2015 Joliet Buccaneers Teddy Bear Touchdown – Spreading Holiday Cheer
Joliet- Since 2009, the Joliet Buccaneers have made it a tradition to visit the children at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Joliet to bring holiday season cheer. This year, the Buccaneers Organization was joined by Ignite Cheerleaders to walk the Pediatric Unit and Children’s Emergency Unit to pass out stuffed teddy bears. “I love this time of the year, said CEO / General Manager Sandra Geib-Ingram. This is the time of the year, where it’s better to give than receive, and what better place to give out some Holiday spirit then at our local hospital, said Geib-Ingram. The Buccaneers players and Staff members along with Team Ignite Cheerleaders and coaches gave young boys and girls a Teddy Bear with a special touch of homemade Holiday cards that Ignite Allstar Coach Alicia Peandro worked with the girls to create. “It’s not about us”, said Team President and now coach Michael Ingram, Since we’ve been a part of this greater Joliet Community, the main purpose of this event and any other event we hold or participate in, has and will always be about the community and what we as an organization can do to help, says Ingram. The players and staff go out and purchase teddy bears and other gifts and bring them to the hospital to give to the children. Majority of the players that are part of the football team are average adults who work full-time jobs and have families of their own who continue to play football for the love of the game, says Geib- Ingram. Two of the players that were in attendance at this event are Joliet natives, and soon to be first year players. Joliet West Graduates Keion Price and his brother Keith Price handed out Teddy Bears with the cheerleaders, “I think what we do here in the community says a lot about our organization and what type of players we are”, said Keion Price. I just can’t wait to put the pads back on again, but this is fun too says Price. The organization hopes in the future, along with the help of some local politicians and businesses that this event will transcend into something bigger. “We will always do this as long as I am here in any capacity says Geib-Ingram.
