59 Auto Repair Participates In 'Socktember,' Raising Socks For Charity

PLAINFIELD, IL — At 59 Auto Repair in Plainfield, this September is also known as "Socktember."

It's the first time the business at 24010 W. Renwick Road is participating in Socktember, a sock drive that began in 2020 in Washington state and has since grown to include businesses nationwide. 59 Auto Repair joined forces with nine other auto repair shops across the country — the group of 10 is called The Sock-et Wrenches — that they met through the Automotive Training Institute to collect new socks.

Each business collects the items for a local charity of their choosing, and 59 Auto Repair is donating their socks to RichEnDeed, a Plainfield-based free organization that makes gently used clothing and household items available for free to those in need. Socks are one of their highest-demand items, organizers said.

"We are really hoping to spread awareness and try to raise as many socks as possible for RichEnDeed," Marisa Brauer, a 59 Auto Repair employee, wrote to Patch in an email. "Their premise is simple; take what you need, need what you take, and leave what you can."

Locals wanting to participate in the drive can drop socks off in the auto repair shop's lobby or at the following collection sites in Plainfield: Advance Auto Parts, 15935 Route 59; and Napa Auto Parts, 23835 W. 135th St.

New socks can also be bought via 59 Auto Repair's Amazon wishlist and shipped directly to the business.
