7-Vehicle Pileup, Fire At Plainfield Grain Elevator Thursday
Plainfield firefighters responded to three emergency calls in about 10 minutes on Thursday.

PLAINFIELD, IL -- It was a busy day for Plainfield firefighters, who responded to three emergency calls in just more than 10 minutes Thursday, including a seven-vehicle pileup, a fire at the old grain elevator and a medical emergency. Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said firefighters rushed to the scene of a chain-reaction crash involving six vehicles and a semi-truck at 4:44 p.m. at Route 59 and Joliet Road. Several people were taken to area hospitals, but there were no life-threatening injuries, he said. Stratton said the accident was initially reported as an eight-vehicle crash, but actually involved six passenger vehicles and the semi.
Six minutes later, firefighters got another call and responded to a report of an unconscious person at a medical facility in Plainfield. The man was taken to a local hospital and his condition was "not critical," Stratton said.
Finally, at 4:56 p.m., Plainfield firefighters responded to a fire on the first floor of the Plainfield grain elevator at Route 59 and Plainfield-Naperville Road. Stratton said some rubbish was burning on the floor, and caused damage to the first floor of the concrete structure. "It's still under investigation," Stratton said.
