824 Speeding Tickets Issued By Plainfield Police Over Course Of Year

The enforcement took place outside of mandatory occupant protection holiday campaigns and distracted driving campaign conducted in April.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police issued 824 speeding tickets during a year-long traffic enforcement period, officials said.

Police released Thursday the results of additional enforcement efforts conducted through the Federal Fiscal Year 2023 Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program, which ran from Oct. 1, 2022, to Sept. 30, 2023.

The enforcement took place outside of mandatory occupant protection holiday campaigns and distracted driving campaign conducted in April, officials said. Similarly to other enforcement campaigns, STEP was also paid for using federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Here's a look at the breakdown of citations issued:

  • 824 speeding
  • 45 occupant restraint
  • 292 other

Police also made several arrests during the STEP. They included two for driving under the influence, 25 for traffic-related violations and 10 for criminal offenses, according to a news release.

"The Plainfield Police Department participated in this effort to save lives by focusing on the leading contributory causes of crashes: speeding, impaired driving, electronic device use, failure to yield, disobeying traffic control signals, lane violations, unsafe commercial motor vehicles, as well as occupant restraint violations," police said.
