America's Richest Places: 10 Illinois Towns Make Top 100

A new census analysis published in Bloomberg ranks America's richest communities. See if your town made the list.

Where are the richest places in America? According to a Bloomberg report, 10 of them are right here in Illinois.

Bloomberg recently released an analysis of U.S. Census data showing that cities and towns with ties to Wall Street and Silicon Valley had the highest U.S. household incomes in 2015. But the richest households weren't isolated to the coasts -- some of them are here in the Midwest.

Ten Illinois communities made the top 100 on the list of America's Richest Places. Here's where they ranked and their average household income for 2015:

10. Winnetka, $311,902

Atherton, California, topped the list, owing to its proximity to Silicon Valley. On the opposite coast, Bloomberg notes that more than one-third of the country's richest households were located within 50 miles of New York City.

Bloomberg ranked a total of 6,200 communities, evaluating them for inflation-adjusted household income. All ranked communities had a minimum population of 2,000.
