PLAINFIELD, IL — After cutting off another driver in the parking lot of Costco April 7, a Plainfield man reportedly threatened the driver with a paintball gun, according to police.

Just after 4 p.m., a person called the police to report that a man driving a dark blue Toyota RAV4 cut him off in the parking lot near the gas station and brandished what looked like a gun in a threatening manner, Cmdr. Anthony Novak told Patch.

The caller told police the car's direction of travel, and officers soon located the driver, identified as the 62-year-old Robert W. Lanham, in the adjacent Costco parking lot, Novak said.

Officers placed Lanham under temporary custody "due to the nature of the complaint and observed furtive movements." Police said officers searched the man, finding a fully loaded magazine in his pocket. In the car, Lanham had a paintball gun resembling a handgun on the front passenger seat and a fully loaded 9mm handgun in the center console, according to the police report.

Lanham, of the 14000 block of South Naperville Road, denied threatening the driver with a firearm but admitted to holding the paintball gun during a verbal altercation, Novak said.

Lanham was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct. His arrest was included in Tuesday's police blotter.

His court date is scheduled for 9 a.m. April 27.
