Prescription Drug Collection Planned This Spring In Plainfield

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Police Department will host its spring prescription drug take-back event April 25.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency-coordinated National Take-Back Day offers locals a way to safely and anonymously dispose of unwanted, expired or unused pharmaceuticals and medicines. The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 14300 S. Coil Plus Drive.

The initiative, launched in 2010, focuses on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from medicine cabinets, according to a news release. It also helps prevent medications from being flushed down the toilet and ending up in the local drinking water supply.

Controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter substances will be accepted. Small, pint-size bottles of cough syrups may be accepted if they are sealed in their original container.

Pharmacies, hospitals and physicians are not permitted to drop off excess medication. Plainfield police said marijuana, heroin, other illegal substances and needles will not be accepted.
