PLAINFIELD, IL — A 2-month-old boy from Plainfield died Tuesday as a result of multiple injuries in an assault, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
The baby's death is being investigated as a homicide, the medical examiner reported Thursday, identifying the boy as Maverick Rowe.
Will County sheriff's deputies were called at about 5:53 p.m. April 26 to a residence in the 14100 block of South Lehigh Drive to assist the Lockport Township Fire Department on an assignment for an unresponsive infant. The residence has a Plainfield address but falls in unincorporated Will County and under the Will County Sheriff's Office's jurisdiction.
When deputies arrived on the scene, the baby was being rushed by an ambulance to a local hospital, WSCO spokesperson Elizabeth Matthews told Patch. The child was soon airlifted in critical condition to Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago. He was pronounced dead at 9:15 p.m. April 28.
The baby's cause of death is assault and multiple injuries, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's log Thursday. The medical examiner listed his manner of death as a homicide.
Matthews said official results from the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office "should take several weeks."
"While the Cook County medical examiner's office may be reporting that, we haven’t received any official word from their office regarding this case," she told Patch. "We are thoroughly investigating this criminal matter, but no charges have been filed."
Will County deputies are working with the Department of Children and Family Services, the children's hospital and the medical examiner to investigate the death, Matthews said.
