Plainfield Teen Faces Attempted Murder Charges After Driving Into Chicago Cops: CPD

While driving west in an eastbound lane, the 18-year-old plowed into Chicago police officers, injuring five of them, officials said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield teenager is facing attempted murder charges, among other felonies, after he drove into a group of Chicago police officers early Sunday, officials said.

Rashad Johnson, 18, is accused of driving west in an eastbound lane around 3:20 a.m. in the 1200 block of South Loomis Street in Chicago before plowing into a group of police gathered to disperse a large gathering on foot, officials said.

The teenager then drove over the curb and came to a stop after striking a police vehicle, a pole and a fence, Patch reported. Five officers were injured and hospitalized in fair condition, officials said.

Police also recovered a weapon from Johnson's car, authorities said.

Johnson, of the 5700 block of Riviera Boulevard, was not hurt and placed into custody. He was charged with the following:

Johnson is due to appear in court Wednesday for a detention hearing.
