PLAINFIELD, IL — A 25-year-old Plainfield man turned himself in Monday in connection with an investigation into possession of child sexual abuse materials, the Will County Sheriff's Office said.
An initial investigation began April 3, 2025, when Discord reported an Internet Crimes Against Children cybertip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The primary cybertip was also connected to several others from Discord and Snapchat, according to a news release.
The Will County Sheriff's Office became involved Aug. 26, 2025.
Sheriff's detectives executed search warrants to Discord and Snapchat and subpoenaed various providers to identify Jerrell Gonzalez, of the 2300 block of Woodhill Court in Plainfield, as the suspect, officials said.
Detectives executed a search warrant April 9 at Gonzalez's residence and seized several electronic devices of his. A forensic review yielded about 13 child sexual abuse images, officials said.
Gonzalez turned himself in four days after a warrant was issued for his arrest, charging him with seven felony counts of possession of child sexual abuse material.
A detention hearing is scheduled Tuesday morning for Gonzalez, who is in custody at the Will County jail.
