PLAINFIELD, IL — No one was hospitalized after a four-car pileup Sunday afternoon at Lockport Street and Route 59, according to Plainfield police.

The crash ensued after a Toyota Camry driver switched from the left-turn lane on Route 59 to the through lanes without checking for oncoming traffic, Cmdr. Anthony Novak told Patch.

Officers were dispatched at about 1:17 p.m. to the downtown Plainfield intersection.

The Camry proceeded to sideswipe a Cadillac CTS, which pushed the Toyota back into the turn lane, where it sideswiped a Nissan Rogue, police determined. The Cadillac was then pushed into a Ford F-150 that had been stopped in front of the Nissan Rogue in the turn lane.

The impact caused the Cadillac to overturn and land upside down, Novak said. The driver sustained minor injuries but declined further medical attention.

All other occupants — the drivers of each car, one passenger in the Toyota and three passengers in the Nissan — refused medical attention.

The 27-year-old man behind the wheel of the Camry was cited for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
