Severe Weather Threatens Plainfield Food Truck Festival, 4th Of July Fireworks Show: PD

Weather forecasts indicate a possibility of thunderstorms during Plainfield's Independence Day celebration.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A thunderstorm is threatening Plainfield's Food Truck Festival and fireworks show in celebration of the Fourth of July, police said.

Schedule changes, temporary event suspensions or a cancellation might be necessary as a thunderstorm is forecast Friday.

Plainfield's annual Independence Day festivities are scheduled to commence at 4 p.m. with the food truck festival at Gregory B. Bott Community Park, 24550 W. Renwick Road. The fireworks display will begin around 9 p.m.

As the Chicagoland area bakes under an extreme heat warning this week, thunderstorms might roll in Thursday afternoon or evening, the National Weather Service forecast. There is also a chance of storms Friday into Saturday.

"If lightning or severe weather threatens the area, attendees should promptly follow instructions from event personnel and move to their vehicles or a designated shelter locations if directed," Plainfield police wrote in an alert. "Please avoid open areas, isolated trees, and metal structures during a thunderstorm."

Event organizers will monitor forecasts and provide updates through social media and onsite staff.

"We encourage everyone to monitor weather conditions throughout the event and be prepared to seek shelter if severe weather develops," police said.
