PLAINFIELD, IL — The once-popular Larry's Diner space will come alive once again at the end of July.
Sushi Uni announced Wednesday it will celebrate its grand opening July 21 at the corner of Lockport Street and Van Dyke Road. It's the restaurant's second location in the Midwest; the first is located outside of Kansas City, Missouri.
The Sushi Uni team said it has been working hard to "create a place where food, warm hospitality and unforgettable dining come together."
"At Sushi UNI, you'll find a menu full of fresh Asian flavors, including handcrafted sushi rolls and sashimi, hibachi-grilled entrées, comforting noodle bowls and soups, flavorful Chinese favorites, fresh salads, seafood and chicken dishes, plus healthy and vegetarian options for everyone at the table," restaurant staff wrote on Facebook.

Owners of the Japanese restaurant rehabilitated the building that had housed Larry's Diner until its closure in May 2023. In March 2025, a fire broke out at the space, causing more than $200,000 in damage, leading to arson charges against two 14-year-old boys, Patch reported.
