PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield-area man was charged in connection with the murder of a 31-year-old man July 5 on Chicago's West Side, according to police.
Demetric Freeling Jr., of the 2700 block of West Steamboat Circle, is facing one count of first-degree murder, one count of murder with strong probability of death or injury, and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm from a motor vehicle.
Chicago police took Freeling, 31, into custody Sunday in the 2700 block of Plainfield Road in Joliet. Investigators identified him as "an offender who participated in" the July 5 shooting that killed a man on the 600 block of North Latrobe Avenue in Chicago, according to a Tuesday news release.
The 31-year-old victim, whose identity has not been released, was found inside a residence with a gunshot wound to his chest, Fox 32 Chicago reported.
It's unclear whether Freeling knew the man. Police said they did not have additional information to release as of Tuesday.
Freeling was due to appear in court for a detention hearing Wednesday.
