Officials are not releasing the boy's current condition as of Friday morning. Mayor John Argoudelis said he is "expected to make a full recovery."

Police said an 18-year-old man has been identified as the suspect in the shooting, but no one has been taken into custody.

Plainfield police, with assistance from the Joliet Police Department Special Operations Squad, executed a search warrant at a residence in the same block where the shooting happened, according to officials.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted and that there is no ongoing threat to the community, police said.

"These things are distressing but our police handled the situation professionally to keep our community safe," Argoudelis wrote on Facebook.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials said they will release additional information as it becomes available.
