PLAINFIELD, IL — Tony's Fresh Market in Plainfield sold a $10.25 million jackpot-winning Lotto ticket to a lucky player, the Illinois Lottery announced Tuesday.
The winning ticket sold at the grocer on Route 59 matched all six numbers — 1-14-19-21-43-50 — in the Aug. 1 drawing.
"My assistant sent me a screenshot from the Illinois Lottery website showing that our store sold the jackpot-winning ticket," said John Moorehouse, store director at Tony's Fresh Market. "It's incredibly exciting. Of course, I wish I had been the one to buy it!"
The newly minted multi-millionaire has one year from the date of the drawing to claim the winnings.
"We don't know who the lucky winner is, but many of our regular customers play Lotto here," Moorehouse said, per the Illinois Lottery. "We're all hoping the winner is someone from our local community."
For selling the winning ticket, Tony's Fresh Market will receive a $102,500 bonus — one percent of the prize amount.
This is the sixth time this year that an Illinois Lottery player won $1 million or more. The most won this year was $11.6 million, sold in January at a convenience store in Bartlett.
The Illinois-only Lotto game is played three times a week on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Tickets for the game can be purchased in-store, online or on the Illinois Lottery app.
