PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police arrested and charged a drunken driver Aug. 30 after he was caught speeding and using the wrong lane near The Boulevard Place, officials said.

At about 11 p.m. near Lincoln Highway and Boulevard Place, an officer spotted a silver Jeep Renegade committing the two traffic violations and pulled the driver over.

Police said the officer made several observations that led them to determine the driver, Brandon McCann, was driving under the influence of alcohol. The 31-year-old man from St. Joseph, Michigan, agreed to field sobriety tests, and "based on his performance and the totality of the circumstances, the officer established probable cause" to believe McCann was driving drunk, Cmdr. Anthony Novak told Patch.

Novak declined to share McCann's blood alcohol content but confirmed it was over the legal limit of 0.08.

A search of the car also yielded a "green leafy substance" that later field-tested positive for cannabis, according to police. It was in an unapproved container inside the car, Novak said.

McCann was transported to the Plainfield Police Department for booking procedures and charged with the following:

The Jeep was towed from the scene due to the driver's lack of insurance, according to Novak.

The case was included in Plainfield police's blotter shared this week.
