Plainfield Pumpkin Breaks State Record For Biggest In IL At Nearly 2,500 Pounds

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield pumpkin grower recently set the state record for the biggest ever grown in Illinois, according to reports.

Phil Groenewold's 2,492.5-pound pumpkin weighed in on Sept. 12 at the Bluegrass Championship Weigh Off in Hawesville, Kentucky, according to the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth.

Groenewold's gourd trounced the previous state record set in 2015 by Streator's Gene McMullen, exceeding the weight of McMullen's pumpkin by 347 pounds, WJOL reported.
