Area Church Expands Service Team for Congregation and Community

Stephen's Ministry Helps All

Plainfield Congregational Church UCC welcomes the newest Stephen’s Minister to its lay ministerial team. Joan Caton, a long-time community resident and church member was commissioned in January of 2018.

Stephen Ministry is a lay care giving ministry that supplements pastoral care. The program teaches laypersons to provide one-on-one care for individuals—from church or the community—who request support. The confidential care-giver and care-receiver relationship, usually conducted by weekly visits, may continue for months or years. Reasons for requesting a Stephen Minister’s visits may range from grieving the loss of a loved one, experiencing a major illness, going through a divorce or job loss, struggling with substance abuse, or other life challenges.

If you or a loved one needs the support of a Stephen’s minister, please contact PCCUCC’c Stephen Leader, Eileen Diercks at 815-436-9441 or 815-666-6393.
