Arson Causes Temporary Closure Of Cumberland Park Playground Structure
Park district staff don't know how long the playground will be closed, but the swing set and rest of Cumberland Park will remain open.
PLAINFIELD, IL — The playground structure at Cumberland Park, off Gallatin Drive in Plainfield, is closed for the time being due to arson, according to officials at the Plainfield Park District.
Officials said the swing set and rest of the park will remain open, but they don't know how long the playground will be closed. Plainfield Fire Chief Jon Stratton said he estimates damages from the fire to be $80,000 or more.
"Sounds like a pretty significant loss," he said.

Park district staff are asking anyone with information relating to the incident to contact the Joliet Police Department at 815-436-6544.
It's unclear when the arson took place. Plainfield Park District staff did not immediately respond to Patch's request for more information, and Patch was unable to reach a Joliet Police Department spokesman at the time of publication.

"Please help us continue to keep your parks safe by contacting your local law enforcement if you witness any vandalism, park abuse or suspicious activity," park district staff wrote in a post on Facebook Wednesday.
