The tight end has really revolutionized itself over the last 2 years. Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham have really become go to targets on their teams. This series continues now. Here are my five best tight ends in the game today. Enjoy.
1. Rob Gronkowski- The most productive qb-receiver tandem in the league over the last two season has been Tom Brady to Rob Gronkowski. If I'm building a team today and I need a tight end, I'm signing Gronk. At 6'6 and 265 pounds, he's a huge threat over the middle of the field and has been the Patriots best player not named Tom Brady over the last few years. He's extremely quick for a man of his size. He can block, run his routes sharply, has outstanding body control and is a big force in the red zone for New England. Gronk is in the prime of his career and will only see more success in the near future.

2. Vernon Davis- He's the closest thing I've seen to an all time great in Shannon Sharpe. Some people may even say Vernon is the best tight end in the game today and not Gronk or Jimmy Graham. I can agree with that to a certain extent because Vernon has put up big numbers with a qb who isn't a pro bowler and Gronk and Jimmy both have hall of famers getting them the football. He's a physical tight end. He can handle being smacked at the line of scrimmage and he can be physical back. You almost have to play him like a wide receiver of some sorts. He's quicker than your average tight end. He's been the best player on the 49ers when it's come to the passing game.
3. Jimmy Graham- You see so many of these former basketball players now playing football today. Add Jimmy to that list along with Antonio Gates and the legend Tony Gonzalez. Jimmy Graham has been nothing but productive these last two seasons. He maybe one of the more versatile tight ends. He can stretch the field and has an immediate advantage over whoever is defending him. He can line up on the outside like a wide receiver, line up in the slot and can even run out the backfield. I personally feel he's at his best in the slot. Jimmy uses his basketball moves on the field to his advantage. He boxes out a defender of some sorts and frees himself to get open.

4. Jason Witten- Jason is the Cowboys go to guy. Tony knows he can depend on him over the middle of the field to make a catch and move the chains. I've often stated that if you can limit Jason's big plays on the field you stop this Cowboys offense although they have Dez on the outside. He isn't the flashiest player, he works the middle of the field, catches everything and puts up big numbers year in and year out. He's a pro bowler and seems to catch everything thrown his way.
5. Aaron Hernandez- He's the most versatile guy on this list. Aaron Hernandez does it all it seems. He's not the biggest tight end. At 6'1 and 245 lbs, he's a lot more shifty than your average tight end. He's elusive, you can move him in motion, he can line up as a wide receiver, line up in the slot, he can block and he can take handoffs in the backfield as a running back. What stands out to me about Aaron is no matter where he is on the field, he's productive and has a very competitive drive. He's also excellent after he catches the ball.
