3. New York Giants at New England Patriots-
This one just took place 11 months ago and I was on the edge of my seat watching
it. Super Bowl XLVI comes in at 3 on the list of my best Super Bowls. Let’s look
at the storylines heading into this one. First, this was a rematch of a regular
season game that the Giants were victorious in by a score of 24-20. Eli claimed
he was a top five Quarterback and we all laughed at him, myself included. The
Giants slumped at the end of the regular season and left out the playoff race if
it hadn’t been for two late season victories over the Jets and Cowboys. In the
playoffs, they go into Green Bay a huge underdog and beat the 15-1 Packers and
beat San Fran a week later in the NFC title game. They got hot at the right
time. The Patriots were the best team in the AFC. They were in their first Super
Bowl since 2008 when they played the Giants. The talk of the Patriots was the
status of Rob Gronkowski’s ankle. He injured it in the AFC title game against
Baltimore. This game started with the Giants bringing the pressure to Brady
early. Get him off his rhythm quick. The Pats would end up taking the lead as
Brady found his rhythm. He got the ball to everyone except his main go to guy
Gronk. The biggest turning point in the game was the interception Chase
Blackburn picked off by Brady. Later int eh fourth quarter, this was Eli’s time
to show the world he was elite. Eli threw a 38 yard pass to Mario Manningham who
kept both feet in. The Giants continued this drive which would end up in a
touchdown and a failed two point conversion that put the Giants up 21-17. This
gave the Patriots the ball back with 57 seconds. The most memorable play of this
one was Welker dropping a wide open pass. With one more play left, Brady heaved
it toward the end zone and it was knocked down. For the second time in four
seasons, the Giants defeated the Patriots.
