Let 2013 Be The Year We All Stand Up To Bullying!
A bully without a following is just a mean person standing alone. The sooner we can put a stop to bullying the better, but it takes a whole village to bring about change, so are you on board?
In this challenging world that we wake up to every day, life is hard enough to deal with without people being nasty and spreading dislike. Bullying is something that should be quashed by everyone and just because you are not the one spreading the lies and rumors personally, not standing up is unacceptable. We need to teach our children, by maybe teaching ourselves first that enabling is just as bad as the bullying itself. If we do nothing to stand up to the bully, we may as well be the doing the punching, be it physical or emotional.
It’s taken me a very long time to get to this realization, and even longer to have the courage to stand up and say it out loud but for me it is crystal clear that saying nothing is fueling a fire. Standing by and not getting involved is saying "I’m not against what you said or did." Sitting back and hoping it will all go away is, aside from terrible cowardice, providing the platform for the nastiness to spread and allowing someone to deal with abuse all by themselves, is nothing short of being the bully yourself.
We all have the ability to be responsible for our own actions and as parents we have the power to teach such actions to our children, so let today be the day that you take a stand against bullying. Let today be the day that you speak up and say "no more." As a community, we have the power to make a change for the better so let 2013 be the year that we all make a difference.
