Buckling Up To Be Focus Of Plainfield Police Thanksgiving Campaign

The Thanksgiving enforcement kicks off Friday in Plainfield.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police will roll out another holiday safety campaign, this time ensuring drivers are buckled up before and after Thanksgiving.

The "Click It or Ticket" campaign will begin Friday and run through Nov. 27. Plainfield police are joining Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies in an effort to reduce injuries and fatalities as a result of crashes.

"Thanksgiving means more vehicles on the road and an increased risk of crashes," Traffic Sergeant Eric Munson wrote in a news release. "No matter how long or short you drive, remember to buckle up and make sure children are in a safe seat."

Police said proper seat belt usage is the most effective way to keep drivers and their passengers safe. With the statewide average seat belt usage at 92.9 percent, Illinois drivers have room for improvement, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The Thanksgiving campaign is paid for using federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT.
