Car Crashes Into Sign With Ironic Message: Plainfield Police

PLAINFIELD POLICE, IL - As the snow continues to fall in Plainfield and the surrounding area, first responders are reminding drivers to be extra cautious on the roadways.

One driver in Plainfield is learning this the hard way, according to the Plainfield Police Department.

Officers responded to an accident at 9:16 a.m. involving a driver who slid off the road while driving in the snow and then crashed into a digital sign at the 59 Auto Repair on W Renwick Road.

However, it wasn't just any sign that the driver slammed into. This particular digital sign contained the following message, "Is your vehicle ready for winter?"

"One of our officers couldn’t help but see the irony in this situation," police posted on their official Facebook page. "This was not a crash involving one of our officers. He was just behind the camera."

The good news, police say, is that the driver of the white car was not injured.

As of 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Sgt. Mike Fisher with the Plainfield Police Dept. says his officers have responded to 19 weather-related crashes. Most, he says, have been single-vehicle accidents.

Winter storms, bad weather and sloppy road conditions are a factor in nearly half a million crashes and more than 2,000 road deaths every winter, according to AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

Traffic experts say if you don't have to drive in the snow or other hazardous weather conditions, then stay home. However, if you do have to brave the elements, remember to drive slowly, increase your following distance and familiarize yourself with your brakes.
