Christmas Eve Fire Burns Down 2-Story Plainfield Home: FD

PLAINFIELD, IL — A two-story house in the 24000 block of Jordan Lane caught fire late on Christmas Eve. Although the house was rendered uninhabitable, no one was injured in the fire that burned for an hour, Plainfield Fire Protection District officials said Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to the house at 11:43 p.m. Dec. 24, where after six minutes, crews found the single-family house heavily burning from the first and second floors. By that point, residents had self-evacuated, officials said.

Due to the volume of the fire and the impending threat it had on the neighboring houses, fire crews said they made the choice to fight the fire in a defensive strategy, and it took about an hour for them to bring it under control. After, crews remained on the scene for several hours extinguishing hot spots.

Officials said one house next door also received minor damage from radiant heat.

As of Wednesday, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Fire departments from Naperville, Oswego, Troy and Lockport, as well as the Plainfield Police Department and Plainfield EMA, helped on the scene. While Plainfield firefighters were taking care of the fire, crews from Romeoville, Aurora, Bolingbrook, Minooka and Homer Township fire departments covered the fire station.
