St. Mary Immaculate runs circles around the rest!

The Class A Illinois State Track & Field Meet has over 2,000 athletes from around 250 schools across Illinois. Every May they combine for a very large and very competitive meet. These are the best of the best in middle school track and field. Simply making it to State is a huge accomplishment! Every event is extremely competitive, some with literally tenths of seconds separating multiple finishers. Medals are awarded for 1st - 8th place in every event.

St. Mary Immaculate School in Plainfield was fortunate to send 12 athletes to this state meet. This is the first year that the school has even had Track and Field and to send 12 athletes to this elite meet is unbelievable. The results were as follows:

7th Grade Girls
4x400 Relay - 4:54.87, 23rd Place (Ava Totosz, Katie Naughton, Tessa Russo, Jordan Reeves, alternate Emilee Totosz)

7th Grade Boys
Long Jump: Matthew Naughton, 15'8.50", 20th Place
400M Run: Matthew Naughton, 60.10 seconds, 13th place

8th Grade Girls
800M Run: Sophia Charbonneau, 2:39.03 seconds (PR), 19th Place
1600M Run: Sophia Charbonneau, 5:56.23 seconds (PR), 17th Place

8th Grade Boys
110M Hurdles: Ben Ebersole, 16.89 seconds (prelims), 14th Place
400M Run: Ben Ebersole, 55.33 seconds (PR), 6th Place Medalist
Discus: Jimmy Lee - 3 scratches in prelims (cold, rainy and slick conditions made throwing extremely difficult Saturday)
1600M Run: Jonah Koplinski, 5:42.06, 27th Place
4x400M Relay: 4:00.64 seconds (PR), 9th Place (Jonah Koplinski, Matthew Naughton, Quinn Callaghan, Ben Ebersole, alternate Matthew Waechter)
*A mere 0.11 seconds behind 8th place just barely missing the podium.
