Community Invited to Plainfield Library Expansion Meeting June 13

The community is invited to learn more about what an expansion could look like for the Library at a public meeting June 13.

PLAINFIELD – The community is invited to learn more about what an expansion could look like for the Plainfield Public Library District at a public meeting on Saturday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Library’s Small Meeting Room. The Library is located at 15025 S. Illinois St. in downtown Plainfield.

The Library opened at its current location in 1990, when the district’s population was 14,123. An expansion is necessary because today, the Library uses the same space – 27,000 square feet – and serves 75,337 people. The Library’s holdings have increased five times to more than 230,000 items since it opened, which includes books, audiobooks, DVDs, Roku devices, kindles and more. With a new expansion, the Library could also offer 21st century spaces and services, such as digital studios, an auditorium, interactive spaces for kids and teens, a café, study rooms, classrooms and designated quiet areas.

This public meeting will be the first opportunity for the community to see what a future Library building could look like. Attendees will get to see three building concepts that have been designed by Nagle Hartray Architects. Library Director Julie Milavec will also give a presentation. Attendees are encouraged to give feedback on the designs presented.
