Community Invited to 'West Side Story' with the Friends of the Plainfield Library April 20

The Friends of the Library invite the community to a bus trip to see a matinee of "West Side Story" on April 20.

PLAINFIELD – The Friends of the Library invite the community to help support the Plainfield Library by taking a bus trip to see a matinee of “West Side Story” at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora on Wednesday, April 20.

Those interested in attending should purchase tickets, which cost $65 each, in person at the Plainfield Public Library’s Check Out Desk by Sunday, March 20 at 5 p.m. Only cash and check will be accepted, and attendees must be 18 years or older.

The price includes transportation, a single matinee admission ticket and a modest donation to the Friends of the Plainfield Library.

“We think this will be a fun opportunity to see a great show, socialize with others in the community, and to help support the Plainfield Library,” said Donna Morrow, President of the Friends of the Library. “This is a new fundraiser we’re doing this year. We think it’s important to offer a variety of fundraisers so that we can accommodate the interests of more people.”

Those who plan to attend should meet at the Library no later than 12:15 p.m. on the day of the show (Wednesday, April 20). The Library is located at 15025 S. Illinois St. in downtown Plainfield. The approximate return time to Plainfield is 5 p.m.

“West Side Story,” is a musical adaption Romeo and Juliet that involves two New York City rival street gangs. When Tony and Maria, both from opposing sides, fall in love at first sight, a stronger tension between the gangs arise.

The Paramount Theatre’s website boasts that the musical has excellent choreography. According to its website, “the choreography in this newest production is a fine balance of vicious intensity and romance that will take your breath away.”

The Friends of the Library is a non-profit group of citizens that support the Library and promote its services. Those interested in joining the group should visit http://plainfieldpubliclibrary.org/about/friends.aspx.
