Could Golf Simulator Open In Plainfield? Plan Commission To Consider Application

The indoor golf facility would open in the former Peter Rubi grocery store.

PLAINFIELD, IL — An indoor golf simulator is eyeing the former Peter Rubi grocery store space on Route 59 in Plainfield.

PB&J Golf Group, run by the Lopina and Constable family in Joliet, is proposing to build about four simulator bays with advanced putting technology at 15412 S. Route 59.

The 3,000-5,000-square-foot facility would be member-based with event and hourly options.

"Together, the Lopina and Constable family ownership group intends to operate as a locally connected, family-run recreational business that reflects Plainfield's community-oriented character while adding a new year-round activity to the Village's business mix," a village document states.

The Plan Commission is set to host a public hearing Wednesday night to discuss the project before voting on a recommendation for the Village Board.

The Plainfield Plaza shopping center is also home to Tischler's Market, Big Pauly's Wood Fired Pizza and the Plainfield Historical Society.

"The subject site is located within a commercial shopping center, and the proposed use would not be out of character with the surrounding uses," village staff said in a memo recommending approval for the project.
