PLAINFIELD, IL — With holiday gatherings and the emerging omicron surge of coronavirus combining to send the demand for tests skyrocketing past supplies, an increasing number of Will County residents have been seeking COVID-19 testing but have found it unavailable or difficult to obtain.

The 7-day average positivity rate in Will County jumped to 9.81 percent as of Dec. 27, an increase of 2.42 percent from the week, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As of Dec. 22, Will County had 4,617 new cases, up 47.56 percent from the previous week's cases, according to CDC's latest available data.

The Will County Health Department on its website lists 59 COVID-19 testing sites in Will County. Here are the ones in Plainfield:

While cases are significantly up in Will County, deaths are down. The CDC reported 17 deaths in Will County for the week ending Dec. 22, down 15 percent from the previous week.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported that as of Monday 8,091,754 Illinoisans ages 5 and up, or 67.9 percent of the population, are fully vaccinated; 9,069,185, or 76.1 percent, have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
