Credit Card Utility Payments Coming Soon To Plainfield

It's unclear whether residents will pay an added fee for the convenience.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield residents will soon be able to use a credit card to make utility payments, and the village may eventually accept credit cards for fines including traffic tickets. The village board last week OKed a proposal to accept credit card utility payments. No residents spoke up during a public hearing on the proposal.

Mayor Michael Collins asked village Director of Management Services Traci Pleckham whether the village will charge a fee for credit card payments. Pleckham said that still hasn't been determined, adding village staff will know more once they begin working with a third-party vendor that would oversee the payments.

Other nearby communities, including Romeoville and Bolingbrook, have long accepted credit cards for payments including utilities.
