A local developer is planning to open a recreational facility and private club in an industrial building near downtown Plainfield.

Clayton Olsen sought input from the village board during a Monday night workshop meeting on plans for Warehouse 109, a 3,855-square-foot event venue located at 14903 S. Center St.

Olsen and his wife, Debbie, own the building, which also houses dog training facility Lucky Dog Academy, Chicago Brew Werks and Tailwinds Distilling.

Village planner Michael Garrigan said Olsen is proposing a venue that would host a maximum of 20 events per year. The facility would also limit attendance to 150 guests per event, Garrigan said.

At a plan commission meeting last month, residents who live near the Center Street building expressed concern over noise, since a DJ and live bands could perform at the venue.

Garrigan said no music would be permitted outside of the facility, including on the patio. All events would also be required to end by midnight.

Village trustee Bill Lamb said the venue could be a “nice addition” to Plainfield, saying he hopes the proposal moves forward.

The site, which has already hosted family celebrations, boasts a vintage bar, custom motorcycle display and “Airstream Lounge,” according to its website.

“It’s a fun place,” Lamb said.

Fellow trustee Margie Bonuchi said she believes the venue is located far enough away from homes to avoid noise issues.

In January, plan commissioners voted 6-0 to recommend approval of the proposal.

Olsen’s request for a special use permit for the facility will have to go before the village board for approval.
