Dist. 202 Students Log Perfect Scores on ACT

Both students say they are excited, although a little surprised by their perfect ACT scores.

Two Dist. 202 high school students scored a perfect 36 on the ACT college entrance exam.

Plainfield High School – Central Campus junior Devon Palmer, and Plainfield South High School junior Amanda Swanson both achieved the exceptionally rare accomplishment on the March 3, 2015 national administration of the ACT.

According to the ACT organization, on average only about one-tenth of one percent of all 1.8 million test takers earn a perfect 36. To have two students from the same high school district land among the 1,000 perfect scorers is even more astounding.

Both students earned high praise from their principals.

“Amanda is an amazing student and this achievement is a testament to her commitment to excellence during her time at South,” PSHS Principal David Travis said. “This is truly an outstanding demonstration of scholarship and we are so proud of her.”

Swanson has been involved with band, the Scholastic Bowl, the math team and the theater stage crew.

PHSCC Principal Robert Smith likewise lauded Palmer’s participation in many student activities, including band, Mathletes, Film Club and the Lewis University Youth Symphonic Orchestra.

“Devon is very self-motivated and has great communications skills with her colleagues and her teachers. She is very confident, has a lot of energy and really wants to make a difference in her school,” Smith said.

Palmer, with a 5.6 grade point average on a 5 point scale currently ranks 12th in her class. Swanson has a 5.72 GPA and ranks second in her class. Both said they were excited and surprised by their results.
