Driver Blows Through Red Light, Strikes Car: Plainfield Police
One person was hospitalized after the crash at Lockport Street and Steiner Road.
PLAINFIELD, IL — One person was hospitalized following a crash caused by one car running a red light, according to Plainfield police.
Plainfield police and paramedics responded at about 10:03 a.m. following a report of a crash with injuries. The crash happened after a GMC Canyon ran a red light at the intersection, Cmdr. Anthony Novak told Patch.
Officers determined that the driver of a GMC was traveling west on Lockport Street, approaching a steady red light at Steiner Road, when, at the same time, a Kia Sportage was traveling through the intersection on a green light, Novak said. Despite the red, the GMC continued and struck the Kia.

Police corroborated the circumstances of the crash with two independent witnesses and video surveillance from a nearby business, Novak said.
The driver of the Kia was hospitalized at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, and the driver of the GMC was evaluated at the scene, then refused further treatment.

The GMC driver was cited for two violations: failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and disobeying a traffic control device.
Both cars were significantly damaged and towed from the scene.
