Drunken Driver Crashes Into Field: Plainfield Police

The 22-year-old was found to be driving with about 300 grams of cannabis and a loaded Glock but had valid FOID and concealed carry cards.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police arrested a 22-year-old man who crashed into a field while driving under the influence of alcohol, officials said.

Officers were called to the area near 135th Street and Heggs Road around 2:10 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a single-car crash. There, they found a 2017 Honda Accord in a field. Witnesses corroborated seeing the sedan drive the field after driving south on Heggs, police told Patch.

As an officer spoke with the driver, identified as Ignacio Bautista, she "made several observations giving her a reasonable belief" he was driving drunk. While searching the car, police also found about 300 grams of cannabis and a loaded Glock.

Commander Anthony Novak confirmed Bautista had valid Firearm Owner Identification and concealed carry cards.

The Plainfield man was arrested after submitting to standardized field sobriety tests, officials said. Bautista was charged with the following:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol
  • Driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or more
  • Possession of cannabis, more than 100 grams but less than 500 grams
  • Manufacture, deliver, possess with intent to deliver cannabis
  • Operating vehicle with suspended registration or no insurance

Bautista was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Center, where he posted bail of $1,000 on Tuesday, documents show.
