DUI Crash 'Demolished' Downtown Seating Area, Bench: Cops
A 21-year-old driver set off a chain reaction crash and careened into a seating area at Mora Asian Fusion in downtown Plainfield.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A 21-year-old from Batavia faces multiple charges in an early morning crash that police say damaged a downtown Plainfield restaurant seating area and destroyed a concrete bench. Grant T. Brown, of the 1000 block of Twin Elms Lane, is charged with DUI, seat belt violations, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane use, possession of cannabis and traffic sign violation in the crash that occurred early Sept. 15.
Plainfield police said witnesses reported Brown's Mitsubishi was traveling at a high rate of speed going east on Lockport Street at around 1:03 a.m. when he lost control in the elevated section of an intersection and struck a black vehicle, pushing that vehicle into a pickup truck. Brown's car then careened into the patio area at Mora Asian Fusion restaurant, where police said it "demolished" the seating area.
Fortunately, the restaurant was long closed for the night and no one was sitting on the patio. Police said Brown was bleeding from the head and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Authorities said it did not appear Brown's injuries were serious.
