Eagle Scout's Project Brings More Fun To Plainfield Park District
PSHS senior Jack Hatch and a group of 10 helpers created new games for the Plainfield Park District to use at their family events.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield South High School senior Jack Hatch has completed a project for the Plainfield Park District that qualifies him to become an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts. He and a group of about 10 helpers including his family and members of Scout Troop #98 helped construct new games for the Plainfield Park District to use at their family events.
The games include a new football toss, a spinning prize wheel, and 5 sets of oversize lawn dice made from wood.
Hatch said that he discovered that the project involved more details than he had originally thought but he liked the end result.

“It takes a lot more work than I expected,” he said, “But it was a good learning experience and taught me how to plan for a project.”
Park District Recreation Manager Misty Bartlett said that she’s been looking for an opportunity to add to the roster of games that the District uses at family events that are held throughout the year.

“These have been on my wish list for a while,” said Bartlett who said that the games will debut at the Autumn Family Fun Fest (Oct. 13) and the Frankenstein Kiddie Carnival (Oct. 19).
She said that she expects that the well-built games will get a lot of use for many years to come.
Hatch said that he’s going to take a gap year after he graduates from Plainfield South High School in 2019. He plans to work and will participate in a mission trip for his church before he decides on where to go for college.
The Park District has benefited from a number of Eagle Scout projects over the years, including the recent installation of ADA-compliant planter boxes outside of the Plainfield Township Community Center, a number of benches, a butterfly garden, a tree identification trail at Van Horn Woods along with numerous bird, duck and bat houses. The original disc golf course at Avery Preserve was also initially conceived as part of an Eagle Scout project.
