Elsa Jean Jepsen (née Nesom), age 86, a resident of Plainfield, IL since 1982, formerly of Brookfield, IL.
She was a longtime member of Sharon United Methodist Church in Plainfield and sang in church choirs from childhood.

Elsa Jean Jepsen (née Nesom), age 86, a resident of Plainfield, IL since 1982, formerly of Brookfield, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at The Ciel at Plainfield, IL. She was born on March 3, 1939, in St. Paul, MN to Florence (née Knutson) and Eugene Nesom. Elsa valued education, faith, and lifelong learning.
She married Donald F. Jepsen on November 11, 1961, and together they raised four children: Mark (the late Martha) Jepsen of Center Point, IA, David (Cyndi) Jepsen of Ottawa, IL, Stephen (Sherry) Jepsen of Plainfield, and Rebecca (Vincent) Ingala of Plainfield. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tyler (Heather) Jepsen, Nathan (Lauren) Jepsen, Joel Jepsen, Sara (Andy) Hundley, Melissa (Eric) Gurley, Andrew (Megan) Jepsen, Bryant Jepsen, Riley Jepsen, Ashlee Jepsen, and Angelo Ingala, as well as her seven great-grandchildren, friends, and extended family. Elsa’s love and dedication to her family were constants, even in times of challenge, and her legacy endures in each of them.
Elsa earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Rockford College, Rockford, IL, in 1960 and an MBA from Lewis University, Romeoville, IL, in 1995. Known for her intelligence and thoughtful nature, she devoted her life to her family while maintaining a strong personal commitment to learning and faith. She was a longtime member of Sharon United Methodist Church in Plainfield and sang in church choirs from childhood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald (2001); her parents, Eugene (1978) and Florence (2000) Nesom; her parents-in-law, C. Floyd and Eleanor Jepsen; her daughter-in-law, Martha (2025); her great-grandson, Gabriel (2020) and her great-granddaughter, Ellie (2026).
Elsa Jean Jepsen’s life was marked by dedication, intellect, faith, and family — and her memory lives on in the generations she nurtured, even through the sorrows and joys they carry forward.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Hope United Methodist Church, 2506 Caton Farm Rd, Joliet, IL 60435, (815) 436-2209.
A celebration of Elsa's life will follow Friday, 12:00 PM in the church with Rev. Ron DeBaun officiating.
Interment will follow at Plainfield Township Cemetery, Plainfield, IL.
