One year after Jim Culver passed away, his beloved Dora passed of old age on the farm where they had spent their entire lives. Twenty years ago you would see Jim plowing the fields with the four draft horses he called the only women in his life. Dora grazed the farm on the north side of 119th and Van Dyke. Dora lost her sister Ruby a while back, but Jim had some cows sharing the pasture a couple of summers ago and Dora was in her glory, protecting the caves and rounding up the cattle in the evenings. A lot of people knew Dora, she had her own fan club, kids who would bring their uneaten lunch apples to her, horse lovers in the area that slowed down to yell hello to her from passing cars, and a young couple who bought their condo just because it backed up to her pasture so they could enjoy her beauty everyday. Dora will be missed by all. (Photo credits Vick Rajab)
